Re: Ecco I Disassembly: Random Bits and Bobs
Ecco 1 Revision 1 sound driver is interesting and in ways more mature than one used in Tides of Time.
For one it actually supports Music Tempo as well as has the ability to dynamically change BGM volume. The latter is leveraged during the pause screen where music fades out gently and back in when ...

Ecco I Disassembly: Random Bits and Bobs
Similar to the adjacent topic this one is going to be used to collect random pieces discovered during the disassembly of Ecco I.
Eventually this post is going to be upgraded with an index and the like.

Re: Ed answers our questions!
I have also been asking Ed questions during the Q&A sessions and I am going to start adding them here, lest I forget.
Was dynamic difficulty in Tides of Time your idea? How did you come up with it and do you remember if it was added late in development?
I think there was a buzz about dynamic ...

Re: Message board: new features
Another extension has been added to the message board to enable support for human-readable URLs.
This will turn boring old links such as https://eccoonline.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10 into https://eccoonline.net/forums/avatar-packs-t10 , etc.
Please report any issues if you encounter them. Thanks!

Ecco Dev Q&A session recordings
The official Ecco Discord server has been holding regular Q&A session with developers for a while now. More recently Ed also decided to do those on a recurring basis and right now they're scheduled every Friday on 12:00 PST .
I have begun recording those sessions starting from the second one and ...

Re: Ecco II Disassembly: Random Bits and Bobs
You might remember how in Revision 1 of Ecco 1 you could input EASY as password to get an easier and overall shorter version of the game.
Turns out Tides of Time also has this check, although it is nearly not as exciting as in the first game and will just start you in Home Bay on Forced Easy mode ...

Re: Ecco II Disassembly: Random Bits and Bobs
More from the wonderful world of 68000 optimizations. The way a password is reassembled from the initial letters is essentially as follows:
int decodeRawPassword(char *srcString) {
int i;
uint8_t charCode;
uint32_t product = 0;
uint32_t multiplier = 1;
for (i = 0; i < 8; i++) {

GDEXXO: Ready Resources
This topic is a sister of the Raw Resource Dumps and its main purpose is to store resources that have been deemed useful after sifting through them.
As usual, this first post will be pinned and is going to be used as an index to future posts in this topic to quickly locate relevant messages.

Re: GDEXXO: Raw Resource Dumps
Files will be going out of order for now but this will be fixed eventually. I thought Clan Boss levels as well as Foe Queen maps are a good place to start.

This topic is long overdue and I have been sitting on the extracted resource files for far too long.

Message Board: AI bots attack
I'm sure you've already seen the online users count going absolutely crazy.

Our message board has experienced a major influx of AI scraper bots lately. I am hesitant to call this an attack and this really is more of a Morris Worm like behaviour.

Re: Message board: new features
I've added Code Highlighter extension to the board in an attempt to make code boxes not so boring.
This appears to have a side effect of false triggering on assembly listings as well as plain text. Additionally the presence of highlight.js appears to slow my browser down.
Please let me know if you ...

Re: Ecco II Disassembly: Random Bits and Bobs
Just another quick note for posterity. Whilst picking apart functions that generate and decode passwords, I've come across two functions that were an absolute hell to wrap my head around. Now, all they really do is 32-bit division and modulo respectively, however due to the fact 68000's div family ...
